RIIVEH304E Conduct tip truck operations
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct tip truck operations in the resources and infrastructure industries.
It applies to individuals working in supervisory and technical specialist roles who perform a broad range of skilled applications in diverse work environments. These professionals typically work with minimal supervision, exercising discretion and sound judgment when selecting equipment, services, or implementing contingency measures as needed.
Nationally Recognised Unit of Competency:
- Duration - 1-2 days, depending on competency
- Time - 7.00am - 3.00pm Monday to Friday
- Location - Freshwater (10-15 mins drive from centre of Cairns)
- Courses held every week unless raining

- Participants must be a minimum of 18 years of age to sit the assessment, and be proficient in English
- Photo ID, and wear appropriate clothing and closed in shoes

- Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment and a plastic industry wallet card issued by QTLT RTO #40931
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:
- Conduct tip truck operations on at least two separate occasions, which includes:
- Organizing work activities in compliance with site standards
- Obtaining and implementing required signage
- Performing log-on, prestart, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures
- Operating, steering, maneuvering and positioning the tip truck effectively
- Raising and lowering the tray with smooth control
- Properly applying load covers for material containment
- Safely discharging loads on slopes and/or over faces
- Dumping and spreading materials according to specifications
- Executing proper halting and parking procedures
- Conducting thorough inspections and identifying potential faults
- Accurately completing written records and reports
During the above operations, the candidate must:
- Locate and apply relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures, confirming work activity compliance
- Implement all requirements, procedures and techniques necessary for conducting safe tip truck operations
- Work collaboratively with others to conduct tip truck operations that meet all required outcomes
- Communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions and establish coordination requirements before and during work activities
