Cairns Truck School provides excavator training both locally in Cairns and in remote locations. The Cairns-based course involves a theory component conducted at our training centre in Cairns, with practical component and assessment conducted at our training site at Freshwater.

Course overview

Cost:  $580 beginners, $480 experienced (*see details below)

Location: 

• Theory - Online
• Practical - 76 Lower Freshwater Rd, Kamerunga QLD 4870 (Google Maps)
• Office - 8 Spoto Street, Woree (Cairns), QLD 4870 (Google Maps)

Duration:  1-2 Days depending on experience

Time:  7.00am - 3.00pm Monday to Friday

* Experienced Course - 1 day -  $480. Must supply either OHS/RII ticket OR VOC (minimum 6 months experience)

Nationally Recognised Unit of Competency

• RIIMPO320F - Conduct civil construction excavator operations (Short Course 1-2 days)

Course outline

This nationally recognised training course gives participants the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently operate an Excavator and work in a range of different working environments including earthmoving, civil construction industries.  

• Legislations and standards applicable to operating an Excavator
• Risk management, control procedures & prepare for Excavator operations
• Drive and operate Excavator, and modify the operating technique to meet changing work conditions
• Select, remove and fit attachments
• Relocate the Excavator
• Carry out machine operator maintenance
• Conduct house keeping

• Assessment type: Theory and Practical

• On successfully completion of being deemed competent you will receive a statement of attainment and a plastic industry wallet card issued by QTLT RTO 40931

A short literacy and numeracy test will be required

Prerequisites

Participates must be:

• Minimum of 17 years of age to sit the assessment
• Proficient in English
• Phone, Ipad or computer with camera if doing online theory
