ACDC - Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control Course

Course Overview

This nationally recognised training program provides the essential skills and knowledge required to safely handle, transport, and apply agricultural chemicals in compliance with Australian legislative and environmental standards. Upon successful completion, participants will be qualified to apply for an ACDC (Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control) Commercial Operator's Licence through their state regulatory authority.

The course combines comprehensive theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical training, ensuring participants are fully prepared to work safely and responsibly with agricultural chemicals in commercial and professional settings.

Units of competency for ACDC Licence (Nationally recognised):

  • AHCCHM307 Prepare and apply chemicals to control pest, weeds and diseases
  • AHCCHM304 Transport, handle and store chemicals

Course Fee: $450.00 per person
Prerequisites: None required
Physical Requirements: Reasonable fitness level needed for practical components

Who needs to do this course??

Chemical Distribution Regulated Areas Map

You need an Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control (ACDC) licence if you use powered equipment to spray herbicides on land you don't own or occupy

This includes:

  • Commercial contractors spraying for clients
  • Council workers applying herbicides on public land
  • Industrial applicators using chemicals commercially
  • Agricultural service providers treating others' properties
  • Anyone doing pest/weed control as a business

Key Requirements

  • Applies to ground distribution (spraying, spreading, dispersing) of herbicides from ground equipment
  • Required when using powered machinery (boom sprayers, quad-bike mounted equipment, etc.)

Exemptions: A license may not be required if you are applying chemicals on land you own or occupy, or if you are in a non-regulated area of Queensland.

Application Process:

  1. Complete accredited training course
  2. Obtain Statement of Attainment
  3. Apply to Biosecurity Queensland/DAF with certified statement
  4. Choose licence period (1 or 3 years)


WorkSafe Requirements

While WorkSafe QLD doesn't administer ACDC licensing directly, they require:

Documentation Required:

  • Hazardous chemicals register
  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Risk assessments

Safety Requirements:

  • Control measures
  • PPE & safety equipment
  • Emergency procedures

Learning Outcomes

Participants will develop expertise in:

  • Chemical Safety & Legislation - Understanding regulatory requirements and compliance obligations
  • Pest, Weed & Disease Management - Identifying and controlling agricultural threats effectively
  • Safe Chemical Handling - Proper mixing, application, transportation, and storage procedures
  • Risk Management - Minimising environmental and personal health risks
  • Equipment Operation - Using and maintaining chemical application equipment
  • Emergency Response - Implementing spill response and emergency procedures
  • Documentation - Maintaining chemical records and developing spray plans
  • Personal Protection - Appropriate use of PPE and safety protocols

Assessment Process

Written Assessment: Comprehensive theory examination covering chemical safety principles, legislative requirements, and application methodologies.

Practical Assessment: Hands-on demonstration of safe chemical mixing, application, and storage procedures using industry-standard equipment and PPE.

Please note: Practical components involve physical tasks including lifting chemical containers, operating spraying equipment, wearing protective gear, and working across varied terrain.

Certification & Licensing

Upon successful completion, participants receive a Statement of Attainment for three nationally recognised units:

  • AHCCHM307 – Prepare and Apply Chemicals to Control Pests, Weeds and Diseases
  • AHCCHM304 – Transport and Store Chemicals

This certification enables applications for ACDC Commercial Operator's Licences across Australian states and territories.
