Standard 11 Course Cairns -

Surface Coal Mining Safety Induction Course

The Standard 11 (S11) Mining Induction course is a prerequisite enabling new starters to commence work on an open-cut coal mine in QLD.

This course training takes participants through the 6 key competencies that will impart valuable knowledge regarding common safety practices of surface extraction coal mines. This provides participants with the skills, knowledge and competency required to work on a surface coal mine.

The S11 course starts with an online component that can be done on any device with a camera (phone, tablet, laptop or computer with camera)

Course Overview:

  • Duration:
    • Part 1 - Online theory component - self paced
    • Part 2 - Face to Face training including assessment
  • Time - 7.00am - 3.00pm
  • Course Fees - $650

Prerequisites:

  • Participants must be a minimum of 17 years of age to sit the assessment, and be proficient in English
  • Photo ID, and wear appropriate clothing and closed in shoes
  • A short literacy and numeracy test will be required
  • Assessment type: Theory and Practical
  • Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment and a plastic industry wallet card issued by QTLT RTO #40931

What is Required to Complete the course?

  • Photo ID - Drivers Licence or Passport.
  • Computer, tablet, smart phone or similar) with:
    • A web-cam
    • Internet connection
  • Closed in shoes for the face-to-face part of the course.

    When using a device for the 

    • Do NOT use Microsoft Edge browser - only use Chrome or Firefox or safari if using an IPAD or iphone.
    • Ensure that any firewall permissions/restrictions have been adjusted/given to ensure that your webcam and microphone are working.
    • All uploaded files will need to be in either .jpeg / .jpg / .png / .pdf / .docx format

Unit of Competencies included in this skill set:

This Skill Set addresses the regulatory requirements for open-cut coal mining specified in Recognised Standard 11, Training in Coal Mining Safety and Health Act, Queensland.

This unit covers skills and knowledge required to communicate in the workplace within the Resources and Infrastructure Industries

RIIERR205D - Apply initial response First Aid
This unit describes a participant's skills and knowledge required to apply initial response First Aid in Coal and Metalliferous mining.  

RIIERR302E - Respond to local emergencies and incidents
This unit covers skills and knowledge required to respond to a range of local emergencies and incidents. It includes implementing response plans, monitoring the situation, taking necessary precautionary measures, and supporting formal relief.  

RIIGOV201E - Comply with site work processes/procedures
This unit covers skills and knowledge required to Comply with site work processes/proceduresin the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.

RIIRIS201E - Conduct local risk control
This unit covers skills and knowledge required to conduct local hazard ID and risk control in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries. 

RIIWHS201E - Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
This unit covers skills and knowledge required to work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.
