Course Description

This course covers the skills and knowledge required to monitor the safety of transport activities.

It encompasses identifying and overseeing chain of responsibility elements within HVNL or relevant state/territory legislation. It also includes administering and supervising chain of responsibility workplace policies, procedures, and indentifying/reporting associated risks.

Job Functions

This unit is relevant to individuals with influence or control over business transport operations, hazards, risks and risk management in these roles:

  • consignor - consigning goods to be transported via heavy vehicle
  • operator - directing heavy vehicle control and usage
  • employer - hiring heavy vehicle drivers
  • prime contractor - contracting heavy vehicle driver services
  • loader - loading heavy vehicles
  • loading manager - overseeing facilities where 5+ heavy vehicles load/unload daily
  • packer - packing/assembling cargo for heavy vehicle transport
  • consignee - receiving heavy vehicle deliveries
  • scheduler - scheduling goods/passenger transport or driver work/rest schedules
  • unloader - unloading heavy vehicles

Currently, no licensing, legislative or certification requirements exist for this unit.

This Australian Recognised Unit of Competency includes determining and monitoring chain of responsibility features in the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) or applicable state/territory law and regulations.

It also involves administering and monitoring chain of responsibility workplace policies and procedures, and identifying and reporting chain of responsibility risks.

What is Required to Complete the course?

  • Photo ID - Drivers Licence or Passport.
  • Computer,tablet, smart phone or similar) with:
    • A web-cam
    • Good internet connection
  • Access to printer & ability to scan or take photo of practice sheets to upload
  • Do NOT use Microsoft Edge browser - only use Chrome or Firefox or safari if using an IPAD.
  • You must have Windows seven or later installed on computer
  • Ensure that any firewall permissions/restrictions have been adjusted/given to ensure that your webcam and microphone are working.
  • All uploaded files will need to be in one of the following file types:
    •  .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .pdf or .docx format

    • or next day if after 3pm.
