CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

• This nationally recognised White Card training course gives trainees basic knowledge of:
  • construction work
  • Work Health and Safety (WH&S) laws
  • common hazards encountered in construction work
  • how associated risks can be controlled
• Under WHS legislation, workers on construction sites must undertake general induction training or ‘White Card training’ and have evidence of their attendance from the course before they are permitted to commence work on a construction site.

Can I Do All of the White Card Course Online in QLD? Buyer Beware!

From February 2019, training for the white card must be undertaken face to face in Queensland.

If you live in Cairns and the surrounding area you will not be able to do your white card online. If you do, it may be invalid - and you still need to have your photo taken with the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on (see photo - we supply the gear). If you don't have any, you will have to buy/borrow some, adding to the cost and time.

Our new course is blended delivery so you can save time by doing the training component online but the GCIT assessment must be completed face to face.

Exemption

An exemption applies allowing candidates whose residential address is further than 100 kilometres away from the nearest RTO delivering face to face white card training, to complete the white card training via online delivery. You will still need a photo with PPE though.

Step 1. Online theory must be completed prior to booking in for practical assessment

You will need access to a computer and the internet to complete this part of your course. If this is difficult for you we can arrange access for you – just give us a call!

Step 2. Attend a face to face assessment at our training location:

This face-to-face practical session gives you the opportunity to learn the applied skills, practice them and receive trainer feedback and then complete assessment tasks.

You must have successfully completed the online assessment prior to booking the practical face to face component of the course.

Course Information

• We offer industry experienced trainers and modern plant and equipment at our Cairns based training centre
• Assessment types:

Multiple choice open book

Individual Verbal questioning 

Complete a simple incident report form

Correctly fit personal protective equipment

• Participants must be a minimum of 15 years of age to sit the assessment and be proficient in English
• On completion the trainees will be able to competently:
  • Identify WHS legislative requirements
  • Identify construction hazards and control measures
  • Identify WHS communication and reporting processes
  • Identify WHS incident response procedure

On successfully completion of being deemed competent you will receive a statement of attainment and a plastic industry wallet card issued by QTLT RTO 40931

A short literacy and numeracy test will be required

What You Need for Your White Card Course

• 3 forms of evidence of identity documents 
• Closed in footwear
• Have Literacy skills to read and interpret statutory signage, warning signs and instructions. 
• Have the ability to complete a workplace Incident Report.
• Have numeracy skills to perform simple calculations.
• Have a level of oral communication that enables them to make accurate verbal reports to assessor.
